Topic: Anna Abrikosova and her husband, converted to Catholicism, founded a parish of Eastern rite and a Dominican community. After the revolution, Anna gave a vow to sacrifice herself for saving Russia. Soon arrested, she suffered and died for her religious convictions and gave an astonishing example of holiness to the world.
Plot: After a short introduction into the time period of Anna Abrikosova and her husband Vladimir, the known Church Historian Alexey Judin, Professor at the University of Moscow and member of the Inter-confessional Dialogue in the Russian Federation, conducts this biographical excurs into the life of these two holy-like characters. Step by step the film tells the story of Anna Abrikosova, her and her husbands marvelous conversion in Paris, the mandate of the Holy Father to follow the Catholic Eastern Rite, their vows to poverty, obbedience and chastity, the foundation of the Dominican community by Anna Abrikosova in Moscow and the priestly ordination of Vladimir, the turmoil of the Revolution in 1917, the vow of the sisters of the Abrikosov Community to offer their lifes in sacrifice for saving Russia, the persecution and arrest of Vladimir and later of Anna and the sisters, the hardships of their imprisonment, the illness of Anna Abrikosova and the time after their liberation from prison. The story is enriched by the spiritual reflections of Anna Abrikosova, the memoires of some sisters, and several quotations of letters from witnesses of her time. The film ends with a short summary about the Abrikosov's community today.
Artistic Considerations: The rich iconography of this film consists in a well balanced mix of original shootings of the epoch, black and white drawings, modern location shootings and short fiction scenes, executed with particular shadow techniques in black and white. Especially for this occasion composed music puts the spectator in the adequate mood of the story.
