Genre:  Sacred music concert
Format: PAL/SECAM, DV-Cam, DV-AVI
Runtime: 37:58

Topic: The tradition of the Gregorian chant is very old; since apostolic times it has become the most widely dispersed religious chant and represents the spiritual heritage that continues through many centuries up until and including its use in the very active centres of monastic life and theological and musical studies of St Gallen, Fulda, Nonantola, and Montecassino.

The tradition of the Gregorian Ambrosian chant was revived in Italy by the Schola Gregoriana Mediolanensis, founded in 1980 by Master Giovanni Vianini, actually composed of two groups of about 20 members each: the feminine Schola and the male Schola. Their performances are famous worldwide, thanks to a rich set of more than 20 CDs, the video recording presented is so far the only one available.

Plot: In the wonderful environment of the Romanic Abbey of Chiaravalle – near Milan, Italy – and the unique atmosphere created by the Renaissance paintings of Bernardo Luini, the concert Dominus Illuminatio Mea presents the best tradition of the Gregorian chant in order to give relevance to the most relevant liturgical steps of the Sunday Catholic Mass as developed in the Ambrosian rite of the Dioceses of Milan.

Here are the Gregorian plainsongs of the Sunday Mass:

  • Praise to Lord “Te Sanctum Dominum”, the choir gives praise accompanying the priest to the altar – the piece inserted here as video clip
  • Introduction: “Dominus Illuminatio Mea – Ps. 26”
