Series: "Life in the U.S.S.R."
Topic: In implementing the project of building a just society, the Communists accomplished a revolution and for more than 70 years, they carried out their social experiment, eliminating millions of fellow citizens. The endeavour proved to be unsuccessful for a number of reasons. Mainly, limiting the human personality within harsh boundaries; it was in contradiction to all that is natural for humanity – a love of freedom, and desire to work for oneself.
Plot: Marxism was a strongly atheistic doctrine. Elder people often think with nostalgia of these times disregarding all the dangers, hardships and difficulties they brought about. It was the clash between atheistic and christian ideas. Contrasting views are presented in this short film: the idealization of still convinced communists and the cruel reality which history presents us today. The contrast between shootings taken from propaganda films of the Soviet era and the reality we know today to be different shall help the spectator to understand, how people of that time could be brought to accept and support a similar totalitarian system. There can be seen also evident parallels to the German Nationalsocialist Movement in the Hitler era. And still there are people today who don't want to admit that the system was wrong, a fruit of decades of "mind-molding". Are people in Russia today ready to learn from this past experiences?
The Series: By breaking the traditional family and religion, taking control of children’s education, prying into spouses’ bedrooms and even the minds of people with the system of denunciations, refusing people respect and their basic rights, the government corrupted the country’s population. This series wants to shed light on some of these realities using sometimes opposing points of view in the choice of interviews and supporting the explained problematic with corrisponding video materials.
